Client Resources

Everything you need as a client.

How the secure client portal works, what documents to gather for your case, and answers to the questions clients ask most.

Free Tool

What does that IRS code or notice mean?

Type a transcript transaction code (like 570 or 846) or a notice number (like CP504 or LT11) and get a plain-English explanation of what it means, how serious it is, and what to do next. Nothing you type is sent anywhere — the tool runs entirely in your browser.

Free Tool

What is waiting costing you?

Enter a balance and see what IRS interest alone adds — per day, per month, and per year, with daily compounding at the current quarterly rate. Penalties are deliberately excluded so the cost of waiting is visible on its own. Nothing you type is sent anywhere — the tool runs entirely in your browser.

Secure Client Portal

How to use the client portal.

The firm runs on Clio, the leading legal practice platform, and its companion portal — Clio for Clients — is where your case lives: secure messages, documents, invoices, and key dates, all in one place. Use the portal, not regular email, for anything sensitive — tax returns, financial documents, and Social Security numbers should never travel by ordinary email.

  1. Watch for your invitation. When your case opens, you'll receive an email from the firm with a secure link to the portal. Click it and sign in with your email address — no password to invent or remember.
  2. Choose browser or app. The portal works in any web browser, or download the free Clio for Clients app (App Store or Google Play) to carry your case on your phone.
  3. Find your way around. Messages is your secure line to Attorney Clarke. Documents is where you upload what's requested and download what's prepared. Invoices shows your flat fee and lets you pay online. Key dates appear on your case calendar.
  4. Watch for notifications. When something needs your review — a document to sign, a question to answer — the portal notifies you so nothing gets lost in an inbox.
  5. More than one case? Tap the briefcase icon in the top-right corner of the app to switch between cases.

Get Ready

What to gather for your case.

You don't need everything before the free consultation — bring what you have. Once engaged, these are the documents each case type typically needs, all uploaded through the portal.

Every case starts with

IRS notices and letters you've received (the more recent, the better)
Last filed federal tax return, if you have a copy
The completed online case evaluation form — sent after your first call

Payment plans, OIC & hardship

Last 3 months of pay stubs or proof of income (Social Security, pension, self-employment)
Last 3 months of bank statements, all accounts
Monthly living expenses: rent or mortgage, utilities, insurance, vehicle payments, medical

Returns, offshore & scam cases

Unfiled years: W-2s and 1099s if you have them — transcripts fill most gaps
Offshore: foreign account statements and highest yearly balances
Scam victims: contracts, payment records, correspondence, and retirement account withdrawal statements

Client FAQ

Questions clients ask most.

How do we communicate during my case?

However you prefer — call or text 603-233-4843, email for routine matters, or the secure portal for anything substantive. Sensitive documents and financial details go through the portal only. Expect replies within one business day.

The IRS sent me a letter (or called me). What do I do?

Don't panic, and don't respond on your own. Upload a photo or scan of any letter to the portal (or text a picture) the day it arrives — deadlines run from the notice date. Once your power of attorney is on file, the IRS is required to deal with Attorney Clarke directly. And know this: the IRS initiates contact by mail, not by phone — an unexpected "IRS" phone call demanding payment is almost always a scam.

How do I send you my documents securely?

Through the client portal's Documents section — photos from your phone work fine. Please don't email tax returns, bank statements, or anything with a Social Security number; ordinary email is not a secure channel.

What is the online case evaluation form?

A structured form sent after your first free call. It captures your income, expenses, assets, and debts — the same categories the IRS uses — so Attorney Clarke can model your options with real numbers and present them at the free follow-up meeting.

How long will my case take?

Investigation and analysis typically run a few weeks. Resolution depends on the path: payment agreements often conclude in one to three months, Currently Not Collectible determinations in a similar window, and Offers in Compromise commonly take six to twelve months of IRS review. You'll always know where the case stands from the portal.

Will collection activity stop while we work?

Generally, yes — that's a priority from day one. A pending Offer in Compromise usually pauses collection, hardship status stops levies, and Attorney Clarke moves quickly on any active levy threat. Every case differs, so this gets addressed specifically at your consultation.

Who actually works on my case?

Attorney Clarke — every strategy decision, every IRS negotiation, every signed document. Software and AI handle transcript monitoring, data entry, and drafts under his supervision, which is how a solo practice delivers big-firm turnaround at published flat fees.

How do I pay, and can fees change?

Your flat fee is quoted in writing before you sign, matches the published schedule, and is payable by card or bank transfer through the portal. It doesn't change unless the scope changes — and any scope change is agreed in writing first. Retired military receive 25% off; documented scam victims pay nothing.

Start with a free 30-minute scheduled phone consultation,
followed by a 30-minute free video or Portsmouth, NH office consultation.

For your convenience, Attorney Clarke is willing to travel to a Regus satellite office in Nashua, Bedford, Manchester, and Concord, NH, or to a Regus office in Boston, Bedford, Peabody, Wakefield and Lawrence, MA, to discuss your case in person.

If you live outside NH and MA, Attorney Clarke can still represent you before the IRS under federal practice rules. In this case, all meetings can be held through phone or video conferencing.
